Why accidental?  My journey as a writer began accidentally whilst living in Jamaica.  This was back in the 90's

The Weekly Telegraph were asking for articles by expats so I wrote a piece.  I received a phone call from London checking a few facts and while on the phone I had an idea for another piece.  I pitched it and got the go ahead to write it.  We were due to leave the island in a few weeks so once I arrived back in England I decided to do a writing course.

I began writing short stories then tried writing plays then wondered how to write a screenplay.  My interests in learning to write for the screen lead me to Bournemouth University  www.bournemouth.ac.uk  where I gained a Masters in Screenwriting.

Since then I have had a feature film optioned, been commissioned to write two feature films as well as having several short films made.

The different disciplines required for each form of writing are interesting and challenging.  As a break from the discipline of screenwriting I really enjoy the freedom of writing a novel.  It is refreshing to be able to describe something without any concern for limiting the amount of words used.

I have written one complete novel and the first 10,000 words of another.  Both have been short listed in competitions. However I now intend to do a major re-write of the completed novel.  I've set myself the challenge of getting this done during the summer (I haven't said which summer).  With the second novel I lost my way and was confused about the genre.  I had a break from it and now I've had a good brainstorming session I know where I'm going with the story and I'm keen to complete it.  I just need a few more hours in each day.
